Back home
Back home in Devon now. Train, boat, train (and just a bit of cycling). A luxurious way to travel quite a long distance! Was the trip worth it? Well for me, an environmental campaigner for whom climate change has become the overarching mother of all issues, absolutely. Dipping into events at the Peoples Summit has also pushed ‘climate justice’ much more into my face. At work, I focus...

Back home
From me, some final reflections: I wore a blue ‘milli-band’ (see previous photo) from the Bristol 350 action weekend until Copenhagen. A sort of promise to myself - many of my students at University can also be seen sporting these. On reflection I was inspired by the deep understanding of the issues by the youth and the people from the ‘poor’ counties. Also their creativity, spirit and values. I...

Dear Marcus and Mark:  I was talking by phone to Helen this morning and asked her to send us good reporting on Copenhagen which is sadly missing from the local mainstream press [USA], and she mentioned your trip and blog and there it was on Google. I wish we had gone to Copenhagen too, looking at your photos of the non-governmental meetings.  We went to a UN Habitat conference in Vancouver many...

The police
From the Warwick Students’s blog I wanted to paraphrase a little of a workshop we witnessed over breakfast, back in the tent we were in last night. An native american older man gave his words of wisdom. He talked about a society run on fear. He told of Hare Krishnas being arrested. Of people held in cages where police climbed ontop and sprayed tear gas inside. He did talk a lot of ‘how it used...

The bicycling
Warwick student’s blog re-post Is not over yet. Having our bikes in Copenhagen has been amazing as we have been cycling all over the city - chasing the demos and going from space to space. We can’t help but notice the fantastic, efficient, inspiring facilities for cyclists. Unlike in the UK, here we are treated as primary commuters - cycle routes are nearly as wide as roads, on every road...

BirdLife International Workshop
I popped into a workshop session being run at DOF (the Danish BirdLife partner) where 20 or so climate focused people from BL partners from around the world were meeting. They were focused on the so called REDD element of the negotiations - avoiding the loss to the atmosphere of the massive amount of carbon locked up in the worlds forests (including the boreal systems). Great to see a load of...

Morning news
We woke up to find the following in a Danish national paper Seven of the world’s largest computer companies promise greater CO2 reduction than most of the rich countries work towards. The ‘Green IT-Panel’ met last night at a panel discussion (Microsoft, Konica, Minalta, Intel, HP, Fujitsu, Dell and Cisco) promising reductins between 20-40%. IBM and Apple are also active in this...
